This spring, Asbury University’s Equine Center will open to the public for new and innovative programs.
“I am excited for the many unique ways our students will be engaging with the public to share their learning,” said Elizabeth Guthrie ’13, who is the program’s new director after its founding director Harold Rainwater retired last fall.
Guthrie’s unique experience as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist combined with her expert horsemanship and passion for the student experience and horse industry will open the 340-plus acre property to new experiences.
Elizabeth Guthrie and the Equine Assisted Services Program will host its first Equine Couple’s Therapy Retreat on March 14-16 in partnership with Martin W. Bartel, Natasha Wakefield and Dennis and Kim Eames, who are all licensed as Emotionally Focused Therapists.
“We are thrilled to host the Equine-Assisted Hold Me Tight Couple’s Retreat in the heart of Kentucky’s Bluegrass region,” said Guthrie, who specializes in Emotionally Focused Therapy, “Through this retreat we will integrate the powerful nature of horses to provide transformative experiences that foster growth and deepen connections for couples in their marriages and relationships.”Guthrie will have assistance of several licensed therapists throughout the weekend-long event in addition to student equine specialists. The retreat takes place at the Equine Center and pricing starts at $395 per couple, lodging not included. The retreat is designed to help couples break free from patterns of conflict, overcome feelings of loneliness or isolation, and increase connection, intimacy, and passion.
