Job Title: Switchboard Operator – Afternoon
Reports to: Assistant Director of Campus Safety
Essential Functions:
- Monitor and respond to the university fire panel.
- Answer and transfer internal and external phone calls.
- Communicate with various persons and departments via email, phone, text, and 2-way radio to conduct university business.
- Review and respond to Switchboard email.
- Maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite to include heavy usage of Teams.
- Maintain an events/ lock/ unlock schedule for Campus Safety
- Maintain lost & found items and information.
- Must be comfortable working in a potentially fast-paced environment.
- Communicate with various first-responding agencies and vendors including Jessamine County 911 and Simplex (fire alarm monitoring)
- Greet and provide information to visitors who arrive at the Hager Administration Building
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all information and materials.
- Follow directions given by Campus Safety staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time on-site position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 2pm to 5pm. Although rare, potential exists to work some evenings and weekends.
Travel:
No travel is expected for this position.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Able to perform internet navigation/searches, and lookup information as requested by personnel.
- Experience in emergency situations while maintaining efficient operations is preferred.
- Maintains a helpful and positive customer-service oriented attitude when dealing with diverse populations.
- Must be able to work and function in a stressful environment during and after an emergency situation.
- Able to work under general supervision and requires only outline suggestions for unusually complex or unprecedented situation.
