Asbury Business School Announces Mentor and Internship Program

The Dayton School of Business (DSB) is excited to announce the new Mentor & Internship Program for students studying accounting, business administration, finance, marketing, and sport management. Alex Walters ’19 serves as the Mentor & Internship Program Coordinator.

“The Mentor & Internship Program will work to connect students with individuals in their chosen career path who can speak into them as future business people and followers of Christ,” Dr. Alesha Graves, dean of the DSB, said. “It is our goal that every DSB student has the opportunity to connect with a mentor and to develop experience in an internship.”

Walters highlights professional development opportunities that business students can customize in the new program, such as meeting with mentors at least three times throughout the semester.

“It is important to have connections and to build a strong network,” Walters said. “For example, an accounting major could meet with a Certified Public Accountant who not only thrives in the field but also loves Christ. Building a network takes undergraduate students to the next level by the time they graduate with meaningful relationships and internships.”

Walters graduated from Asbury in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and is earning his Master of Arts in Leadership at Asbury Theological Seminary. After working as an Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions for almost two years in Asbury University’s Office of Admissions, Walters now looks forward to facilitating mentor-mentee relationships, similar to ones he experienced during his formative undergraduate years.

“I benefited greatly by having mentors throughout my Asbury journey,” he said. “The lessons they taught me were invaluable. I am excited to see students receive mentorship and internship opportunities that will help them to succeed in the marketplace.”

“We believe that education extends beyond the walls of a classroom,” Graves said. “It is our desire to provide relevant and engaging opportunities for our students to be prepared for the jobs of the future.”
