Asbury Hosts Conference for the Christian Scientific Society

September 28, 2023

The Asbury University Honors Program will host a conference for the Christian Scientific Society (CSS) on Saturday, Oct. 7, in the Shaw Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) Auditorium. This all-day event focuses on “The Impact of Technology on Human Flourishing” and includes speakers: Dr. Michael Hilton, Dr. Jim Painter, Dr. Jason Rampelt, Dr. Brandon Rickabaugh, and Dr. David Snoke. This conference is free for students and $20 for CSS members and non-members. Register here: www.christianscientific.org/meeting-registration.

“Our students and community are sure to be benefited by this gathering of scientists on our campus,” said Director of the Honors Program Dr. Paul Nesselroade. “Some of the presentations include: ‘ChatGPT: Liar, Lunatic or (Over)Lord,’ ‘The Promise and Pitfalls of Technology Regarding Food for Humans,’ and ‘Reprogramming Humanity: The Human Soul and AI’s Power to Dehumanize.’”

The CSS is a circle of professionals seeking to advance understanding in science as an aspect of living faithfully. The society’s website states: “We seek to know truth ourselves, and to make the truth known. As our name says, we are about science from a Christian perspective. This means, first of all, that we seek to not just philosophize about science, but to actually do science.” Learn more: www.christianscientific.org.

The Asbury University Honors Program invites students to join a community of scholars engaged in a themed enrichment experience which gives particular focus to the concept of human value and dignity and the virtuous life. Learn more: https://www.asbury.edu/academics/honors/.
