At Asbury, our comprehensive approach to our Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) programs plays a pivotal role in addressing the significant teaching shortages America is facing. We recognize the diverse pathways individuals take to become educators and thrive in their field, and we work hard to support our teachers and open doors for them to progress in their careers or make a career change.
Our MAT programs may be completed through the traditional or Option 6 routes. The Option 6 route provides a streamlined and expedited pathway to initial, immediate teaching certification upon admission into a program. Students engage in intensive coursework and classroom management techniques in an accelerated approach. By offering alternative certification pathways like Option 6, Asbury’s MAT programs provide a route for professionals from various backgrounds outside of education to transition into teaching and help meet the immediate needs of schools.
The MAT programs are offered through our synchronous online platform that provides you with the opportunity to build relationships with our faculty and your peers. Attending class online allows you to maintain the benefits of real-time interaction with our professors. Most classes are offered in 8-week evening sessions allowing for quick program completion.
The MAT approach not only prepares teachers to excel in their roles, but also instills confidence in school administrators and parents, contributing to the overall quality of education. Whether you’re looking for a fast-track option or prefer a more gradual approach, we have programs that will suit your needs.

Your professors are in your corner to do everything in their power to help you succeed. This is how Asbury has made me into the teacher I am today!”
