Title:                           Counselor (full-time 9 month position)         

Reports to:                 Associate Dean of Wholeness and Wellness

Division:                     Student Development

Job Summary: The Counselor provides programs and services to address the mental health needs of the entire campus community. This counselor will provide a full range of community counseling services and is responsible for specific components of the departmental goal plan. The Counselor serves directly under the Associate Dean of Wholeness and Wellness. As a staff member of the Center for Wholeness and Wellness and the Student Life team, the counselor supports the overall mission of Asbury University and adheres to the ethos statement of the University. An important part of the position is supporting the ministry and mission of the University and advancing the academic excellence and spiritual vitality of our University and students. Each employee plays an important role in the development of the Christian faith in our students.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Primary focus of this position is to provide individual, couple, and group counseling services and referral services as part of the Center for Wholeness and Wellness in accord with established policies and procedures.
  2. Caseload would be approximately 20-25 hours per week with individual, couples and group counseling.
  3. To provide assessment services to students.
  4. To participate in multidisciplinary case consultations as permitted by professional ethics and legal statute.
  5. To provide multidisciplinary training opportunities that include practicum/intern orientation, Friday training component of the practicum/internship program, suicide prevention programs as well as Student Life and other staff/faculty development programs.
  6. To provide consultations with administration, faculty, and/or staff regarding students as permitted by professional ethics and legal statute.
  7. To plan, implement, and evaluate campus programming provided by the Center for Wholeness and Wellness.
  8. To provide assistance in student-related mental health emergencies. Counselors are to be available after regular working hours on a rotating basis to provide crisis intervention for acute mental health emergencies. On-call scheduling is done at the beginning of each semester for professional staff.
  9. To provide consultation and assistance in Student Life programming.
  10. To provide weekly supervision and training for master’s level practicum/intern counselors.
  11. To accomplish tasks in accord with established professional ethical standards and best practice standards.
  12. Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time on-site position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Potential exists to work some evenings and weekends.

Travel:

No travel is expected for this position.

Requirements:          

The counselor will be a master’s level or above counselor, psychologist or marriage and family therapist, licensed or eligible for licensure in Kentucky by hire date, with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience and autonomous functioning. The counselor will be required to maintain liability insurance coverage and current licensure throughout employment. The nature of the position will occasionally require additional hours, evenings, and weekends.
