Proficiency Evaluation Pathway – Certification Only

Student inquiries come in a variety of ways and for a variety of reasons. Some individuals already have or have already had teaching certification, some are looking to add an area to their certificate, and some have done the coursework but did not get a teaching certification, yet. It is important to determine what criteria are necessary to determine eligibility to this program.

A Proficiency Evaluation can be used for the following situation:

  • Students without a degree in their area of specialty
  • Students with a teaching certification and additional work in their area of specialty
  • Students with no certification but extensive education preparation from another university

The evaluation requires an analysis to be done of experiences and coursework of the applicant making comparisons and contrasts to the needed training of the area of specialty. An individual coursework or curriculum is designed to meet those needs. The number of hours for that coursework depends on the needs of the individual applicant. Certification can be achieved once the applicant is admitted to the program. Asbury University will charge a $500 service fee for the curriculum analysis. Applicants admitted to a Proficiency Evaluation Pathway program must complete the coursework in two years to receive a Professional Teaching Certification. A Proficiency Evaluation Pathway is a certification only program, so applicants are not eligible for Federal Financial Aid.
