Asbury University Welcomes Nursing Program Administrator

Dr. Connie Lamb will facilitate the development of Asbury’s future BSN program

August 8, 2024

Dr. Connie Lamb

The Asbury University Shaw School of Sciences welcomes Dr. Connie Lamb (RN, CNE, CHSE) as the new Nursing Program Administrator and Associate Professor. In May, Asbury University received approval from the Kentucky Board of Nursing to submit an application for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. Lamb’s arrival will facilitate the development of the future BSN program for undergraduate students.

“Nursing programs are valuable to Kentucky due to the high demand for nurses and the anticipated growth of nursing positions in the state,” said Asbury University Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Sherry Powers. “The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that registered nursing jobs will grow faster than average through 2031, with around 203,200 openings each year. Dr. Connie Lamb has extensive experience leading the development of new nursing programs in Kentucky. Across her distinguished career, Dr. Lamb has inspired and supported students in their academic journey and played an important role in reducing equity gaps in educational and workforce pipelines while addressing the critical shortages of healthcare professionals. She has demonstrated a commitment to prepare Christian healthcare professionals at the university within the larger framework of the liberal arts curriculum.”

Lamb earned a BSN from Berea College in 1996 and a master’s degree in nursing from Eastern Kentucky University in 2004. In 2008, she obtained a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Kentucky. As a passionate certified nurse educator with 19 years of teaching and leadership experience, Lamb served at Eastern Kentucky University, Berea College, and Bluegrass Community and Technical College, most recently as Associate Dean & Director of Nursing. During this time, Lamb earned the National League for Nursing Certified Nurse Educator title (maintained since 2012), a reflection of commitment to excellence in nursing education.

“I am honored to join the esteemed faculty and staff at Asbury University as Nursing Program Administrator,” Lamb said. “Together with university leadership, I look forward to developing a distinguished Baccalaureate Nursing Program and educating future generations of nurses. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to Asbury University’s mission of equipping students with knowledge, skills, and a Christ-centered commitment to serve others.”

Asbury currently offers Pre-Nursing course work, which provides options for students who are interested in pursuing a career in nursing. Earlier this year, Asbury University and the University of Kentucky College of Nursing announced the Accelerated BSN (ABSN) agreement and also a BSN transfer pathway agreement with preferred admission to the UK College of Nursing. Students have the opportunity to complete a Bachelor of Science at Asbury and a BSN at the University of Kentucky, meeting a direct need for highly qualified nurses in the state of Kentucky and beyond while also being equipped with a Christian liberal arts foundation.

“For more than 25 years, students who come to Asbury with an interest in nursing have taken prerequisite courses at Asbury before transferring to nursing school to complete a BSN,” said Dean of the Shaw School of Sciences Dr. Vins Sutlive. “With Dr. Connie Lamb joining our faculty, Asbury is taking the first step to having a start-to-finish, four-year BSN degree on campus. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Lamb taking on the leadership role in developing this new program.”
