Windgate Art & Design Scholarship

The Windgate Art & Design Scholarship at Asbury University supports talented art students with up to $4,000 per academic year, renewable annually. This merit-based scholarship is available to new students majoring in Art & Design, Art Education, or Pre-Art Therapy, and requires a minimum 3.0 GPA. Windgate Scholars are expected to maintain a high academic standard and actively participate in departmental activities, with the opportunity to enhance their educational experience through leadership roles and faculty mentorship. 

Personal Studio Space and Exhibition

While moving into their junior year you will have the opportunity to a have a dedicated studio space of your own to further focus on your craft and prepare for your Senior Art Thesis and Exhibition.

Working near other students offers the opportunity to focus on your work while being in an environment that emphasizes collaboration and comradery. Majors will have access to a fully equipped ceramics lab, photo lab, and workshop.  Your time at Asbury will culminate with the unique experience and excitement of your very own exhibit of your work in dedicated exhibition spaces on campus.

  • Senior Art History Presentations – By completing the art history emphasis, you publicly present research at the annual art history symposium on-campus or at a local museum or gallery; you also may choose to guest-curate a show on-campus or off-campus.
  • Faculty Mentoring – As an art student, you can enjoy exceptional mentoring via contained class sizes, faculty advisors, Junior Review, and weekly directed study meetings with professors during your junior and senior years.
  • Art Trips – You can take advantage of regularly scheduled departmental trips to major art collections in Lexington, Cincinnati, and Chicago.

    • Asbury art students enjoy a high rate of acceptance into graduate programs of their choice, including Indiana University, Yale University School of Art, Slade School of Fine Art—London, School of Visual Arts (New York), and University of Kentucky.

    • The required Senior Seminar course addresses career and grad school planning and encourages an individualized plan.

    • In-house Student Resource Room archives up-to-date career and grad school planning materials.

    • All majors are given experiential training in approaches to gallery presentation methods and materials, in the form of a course that includes a group show of student work, organized entirely by students.

    • Internships are encouraged and in some cases required.
