After Asbury Media Communication graduate Jake Halm ’16 found a passion for audio production during his college years, he pursued the music industry in Nashville, garnering production awards and nominations and working with artists such as Tauren Wells, Natalie Grant, For King + Country, Lauren Daigle, MercyMe, and more.
Halm credits his experience at Asbury for meeting his wife, Madeline Vermilion’15 Halm, growing in his walk with God, and nurturing his talents as a creative.
“Asbury provided a great environment for not only the technical side of production but also allowed for creative exploration and trial and error,” said Halm. “It was a place where I could experiment, fail, and learn, which really helped build a solid foundation in both my skills and my faith.”
After parting with the Ransomed Class at graduation, Halm quickly connected with Tedd T, Grammy Award–winning music producer, songwriter, arranger, programmer, and engineer in Nashville, and began collaborating on projects together.
Working with Tedd T alongside clients within the Christian music arena, Halm won a 2020 Grammy for his technical work on For King + Country’s album Burn the Ships. Recently, he produced and engineered songs and collections nominated for 2024 Dove Awards including: “Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year” and three “Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year” nominations.
“Each project presents its own unique challenges, whether its technical, artistic, or personal,” said Halm. “Every day is a new adventure, and it is such a privilege to help bring their music to life. Every project is unique, and it is so rewarding to see an idea form itself into reality. I am so grateful and honored to be a part of each one and work with some of the most talented and creative people in the music industry.”
Throughout his success and busy lifestyle, Halm still stays true to his faith he held at Asbury:
“I think the biggest thing that has stuck with me was a growth in spiritual maturity and developing good habits in my walk with Christ,” he said “Asbury helped me form a strong foundation, not just in my technical skills, but also my faith. My faith directly influences the way I approach every project, person, and challenge I encounter every day.”
The Halms are now preparing for a newborn while continuing to work in the music industry.
