INSTITUTIONAL COMMITMENT: Asbury University is an independent Christian liberal arts university in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition. Because of our commitment to the global reach of God’s kingdom, we encourage all qualified candidates to apply, including women and applicants from various ethnic backgrounds. At Asbury University, employees must display a committed and dynamic Christian faith and the ability to support the University’s Wesleyan-Holiness theological position, lifestyle standards, and mission. Asbury University does not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, or disability in its educational programs, activities, or employment practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Teach 24 credit hours in an academic year, ranging from general education literature courses to upper-division seminars in literature.  Maintain an active research program.  Professors also help to foster a strong department culture, spend significant time with students in office hours, serve on university committees, and provide leadership and active participation in spiritual life activities on campus.

ACADEMIC RANK: Academic rank at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level commensurate with experience.

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH INFORMATION: The Department of English offers Bachelor of Arts Degrees in English and Creative Writing, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in English Education. Its journal of student writing and art, The Asbury Review, is published fall and spring. Asbury University is located in Kentucky’s scenic Bluegrass region, fifteen minutes south of Lexington.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  We are open to any areas of literary specialty that complement our existing strengths, but candidates must be ABD or have completed a Ph.D. in English. A commitment to academic excellence and spiritual vitality is necessary, with faculty innovation and creativity highly valued. Candidates must be in harmony and compliance with Faith, Mission, and Community Lifestyle Standards.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have experience teaching writing and literature through a variety of methods.
