COMAP Math Modeling Competition

The Mathematical Contest in Modeling is an international competition held each February. Teams of three undergraduate students use their mathematical skills to model solutions to real world problems. Some teams participate in the Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (an extension of the math modeling contest) which is designed to develop and advance interdisciplinary problem-solving skills as well as competence in written communication.

The competition is a highlight of the academic year with teams spending 36 hours working on these interesting problems. Submitted work is judged by an international panel, and each year Asbury generally has at least one earn a “meritorious” rating (top 15 percent of the competition).

In 2015, the Asbury Math Department celebrated 28 years of participation in this contest. The department hosted a Math Modeling Celebration on Wednesday February 4th to dedicate the “Math Modeling Hall of Fame”.
