Gabe Ernst ’22

Serving Indigenous Tribes in Paraguay with World Gospel Mission

As an Intercultural Studies graduate from Asbury University’s class of 2022, Gabe Ernst ‘22 has dedicated his life to serving indigenous communities in Paraguay. Ernst, a global worker with World Gospel Mission (WGM), is spearheading efforts to pioneer indigenous ministries focused on evangelism, discipleship, community development, and justice among spiritually unreached and impoverished tribes.

Since moving to Paraguay in January 2023, Ernst has been immersed in ministry, learning the Guarani and Aché languages while building relationships with indigenous peoples in remote regions. In January 2025, Ernst will relocate to Naranjal, a rural town closer to the tribes he serves.

“My wife-to-be, Dahiana, and I share the same calling,” Ernst said. “We’ll continue serving together with WGM, witnessing the transformative power of the Gospel, and bringing hope to those who have never heard the Good News.”

Ernst credits his Asbury education with laying a strong foundation for his vocation. Classes like Contextualization and Cross-Cultural Life and Work with Dr. Kirk Sims and Spanish courses with Dr. Shelby Thacker and Adriana Rivera provided tools to adapt to different cultures and contexts.

“I wouldn’t trade my Asbury experiences for anything,” Ernst said. “Leading and serving on campus gave me perspectives and skills that are invaluable in ministry today.”

Ernst’s advice for young alumni and students is simple yet profound:
“Get involved on campus and start gaining experience in your field now. Participate in the Great Commission — it’s for all of us, not just missionaries. Support missions through giving, prayer, and serving while you’re young.”

In addition to ministry, Ernst finds joy in music, hiking, exploring nature, and discovering coffee shops. His adventurous spirit shines as he navigates the jungle in his 4×4 truck, carrying the message of hope and love to some of Paraguay’s most marginalized communities.
