Wilmore, Ky. — Asbury University’s Music Department celebrated students’ accomplishments and awarded $2,000 in prizes during the annual Peniston Honors Competition recital.
Asbury’s premier student recital, the competition featured winners of the Peniston Honors Competition in vocal performance, instrumental performance, keyboard performance and music composition categories.
The competition and recital are named in honor of long-time professor Era Wilder Peniston, who honored the music department with her faithful teaching and strong leadership for 38 years. The events enrich Music students’ experience, allowing them to perform for professional adjudicators, enjoy a reception and fellowship with a representative of the Peniston family in attendance.
“Asbury University has long been recognized for its dual emphasis on academic excellence as well as vital spiritual faith,” said Dr. Mark Schell, chair of the Music Department. “Our students are keenly aware that musical talent is both a gift and a privilege. Because of this, we always seek to give God our best through music — and the Peniston Honors Competition celebrates this striving for excellence.”
