With Counseling Services, you can find caring, professional, and confidential support when you need it. Here are some of the different types of services we offer:
Individual Counseling
Typical concerns may include relationships, anxiety, depression, grief, self-esteem, eating, sexuality, perfectionist behaviors, stress management, etc.
Couples Counseling
Couples are encouraged to seek consultation at any stage of their relationship. Topics could include communication, personalities, life goals, spirituality, family influence, conflict resolution, etc. Ask us about the premarital retreat offered every spring semester through Student Life.
Student Wellness Groups
We offer a number of Student Wellness Groups that meet weekly, offering support and therapeutic tools on a variety of topics. All groups are led by one of our licensed counselors. You can register for most groups directly through your Student Portal.
Our Fall 2024 Student Wellness Groups are:
Chronic Illness Support: Finding strength and healing with others navigating the college experience with the unique challenge of having a chronic medical condition. (Every other Tuesday at 4pm)
Peer2Peer: Training and community for students interested in becoming Student Mentors through the Peer2Peer Program (Tuesdays at 11am)
Men’s Sexual Wholeness*: Supporting one another on the path toward sexual wholeness. (Fridays at 10 am, emailkevin.bellew@asbury.edu for details)
Women’s Sexual Wholeness*: Supporting one another on the path toward sexual wholeness. (Fridays at 10 am, emailnatasha.clements@asbury.edu for details)
Journey: Support for those who identify as LGBTQ+ and/or are navigating the challenges of sexual identity. (Wednesdays at 4pm, email kevin.bellew@asbury.edu for details)

Additional groups may be added throughout the semester based on student interest. Potential groups include:
Serenity: Discovering peace in the midst of stress and anxiety.
Thrive: A safe space to process and explore relationships with yourself, others, and God.
Reclaim: Support for survivors of sexual assault.
Mosaic: Supportive community for those learning to walk within a different culture.
Belonging: A space to process and explore the unique challenges of ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, sensory issues, or other types of neurovariance.
Emotional Grit: Becoming more resilient by making peace with your emotions and improving healthy behaviors.
ACL (Athlete Community Life): A space for injured and former athletes seeking community and identity.
Substance Abuse Support: Discovering support, hope, and healing in seeking recovery from addiction.
In Step: Equine-assisted healing of emotional wounds.
Grief & Loss Support*: Discover support, hope, and healing following or while facing the loss of a loved one.
Created for Connection: An eight-week workshop on making deep and meaningful connections.
Get Centered: Twenty silent minutes of contemplative Centering Prayer absorbing the loving presence of God.
Nourish: Finding food and body peace.
Walk & Talk: Connecting with nature and other students during a 45-minute walk on AU’s cross-country trails while engaging in intentional conversation.
Conflict Mediation
Our counselors are professionally trained to assist you in resolution, to help you build the skills necessary to resolve conflict and to advocate on your behalf as necessary. Counselors are willing to meet with you individually or jointly depending on your preference.
Crisis Counseling
We will do our best to meet with a student who is in a situation requiring immediate counseling as soon as possible.
