Summer at Asbury University: Camps

Adventures, new friendships and spiritual growth.

No, this isn’t New Student Orientation, the start of a new semester or Fall Revival. This is summer at Asbury University.

Though the traditional undergraduate population may be gone for the summer, the University’s campus has been bustling with activity: a plethora of summer camps, conferences and, soon, Reunion 2018, all hosted on Asbury’s campus.

Throughout the last two weeks, Impact U camps have given high school students the opportunity to spend time exploring different career options and experiencing college life. Students were immersed in subjects such as film, equine, brass music, creative writing, forensic science, adventure leadership and environmental science & biotechnology. Taylor Voss, a high school sophomore from Lexington, Ky., loved participating in Impact U because of the lively social atmosphere it provides and worship times with fellow campers.

“It’s a place where you can meet friends, learn about God and just connect with people and have fun,” Voss said.

For senior Emma Wayland, who hails from Detroit, Mich. and participated in the theater camp, Impact U was particularly special because of the high-quality, concentrated lessons from professors and the unique Asbury community.

“It’s just such a genuine community here and, to me, most colleges aren’t like that but this one really is,” Wayland said. “It was all really good but I just love the professors and how much they care and it’s just been so much fun.”

In addition to Impact U, Asbury hosts many other opportunities throughout the summer. Here are just a few summer happenings:

Asbury hosts sports camps each summer, from basketball to soccer to volleyball. Learn more about sports camps here.
Middle and high school students who are interested in the great outdoors get in tune with their adventurous side at adventure camps that include rock climbing and canoeing.
Is your middle school student a math whiz? Sign them up for LEGO Robotics Camp later this summer. The camp will run from July 16-20 and July 23-27. Campers will use math and learn about the key principles of building and programming robots. Register for LEGO Robotics Camp here.
Currently on campus, for the third year in a row, is Youth Becoming Leaders (YBL), a two-week camp that teaches high school students about theology and leadership.
Asbury is currently hosting the Kentucky location of the Generate camp. The traveling camp serves to give youth around the country a place to worship, find fellowship and fall more in love with Christ.
The Association of Christian Librarians is also on campus this week for its annual conference on librarianship and to promote networking and personal development within the field.
Youth conference Kingdom Breakout will be on campus June 25-29. Kingdom Breakout is a five-day experience that will give students space to encounter Jesus through teachings, ministry and worship.
Students in the Rogers Explorers program camp, put on by the Center for Rural Development in partnership with Asbury, visited campus June 3-5 and enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in video chatting with NASA engineers. The program encourages students to develop skills in science, math, technology and community service.
