Asbury’s Pitts Center to host Ambassadors Roundtable

WILMORE, Ky. — Asbury University has long been known for its students, faculty and alumni traveling the world to serve fellow man as missionaries, doctors, in business and in ministry. With current on-campus students representing more than 40 countries, the world assuredly comes to Asbury, as well.

Such is the case again on Tuesday, Oct. 23, when Asbury University’s Joe Pitts Center for Public Policy presents an Ambassadors Roundtable, a conversation and Q&A with visiting ambassadors to the United States from Asia and Africa.

The former ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic (Dr. Baktybek Abdrisaev), the ambassador of Western Sahara to the U.S. and United Nations (Mouloud Said) and tentative guest diplomats from Uzbekistan and Egypt, will be speaking to students and guests at Asbury’s Jameson Recital Hall from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

The event — which is free and open to the public — will be moderated by former U.S. Representative Joe Pitts, a 1961 graduate of Asbury. The ambassadors will discuss social, political, religious and economic conditions in their states.

“The Pitts Center seeks to equip our students for greater civic awareness and engagement in the pressing policy issues of our world — at local, national and international levels,” said Dr. Sandra C. Gray, President of Asbury University. “We are honored to host this unique visit and roundtable.”

Members of the public and Asbury students — including those taking the university’s Comparative Politics course — will have the opportunity to meet the ambassadors for mini-lectures and conversations from 3:45-4:45 p.m. in the same location.

“We look forward to having these ambassadors on our campus for this special event, as we work to train the next generation of men and women for public service, and work toward solutions for the betterment of our world at large,” Gray said.
