Want to investigate a crime scene, get started on your novel or learn the ins and outs of horsemanship this summer? Through Asbury University’s ImpactU camps, you can do all of that and more!
Each summer, Asbury opens its doors to high school students for a week of fun, learning and spiritual engagement through residential, academic camps.
Within these one-of-a-kind camps, students get a college-type experience that will help them hone their talents in a Christian community. Camps are led by experienced faculty and talented college students in each respective field. This summer, these one-week camps will run June 3-7 and June 10-14.
According to Visit Specialist Shelby Weakley ’14 Gonia, ImpactU provides a great opportunity for high school students who are currently looking into their college options.
“ImpactU students can expect to experience a taste of what college is like, more specifically Asbury University,” Gonia said. “They will be in classes learning from Asbury professors, staying and dining in the facilities, worshipping together and experiencing community with fellow campers of other disciplines.”
At ImpactU, campers get to explore their passions and hobbies through camp intensives. 2019 camps include:
Register for ImpactU by visiting asbury.edu/ImpactU.
“Classroom time will vary with each camp, but some notable camp experiences include capturing and editing short films, an overnight camping and canoeing trip, and learning to vault or do gymnastics on horseback,” Gonia said. “There are also fun activities at night that include canoeing and campfires. [There is also] a talent show that is a great way to showcase what campers have learned during their time in the classroom.”
At only $400, ImpactU campers get a full, residential week at Asbury and will walk away with valuable experiences in their field of choice, new friends and potentially more clarity in their college search. Fees include all food, lodging and supplies over the course of the week.
“The value that a camper can expect to walk away with is an understanding of what college culture can feel like,” Gonia said. “ImpactU covers the three main things that all traditional undergraduate students experience here at Asbury — the classroom, community and spiritual growth.”
For those considering their college options, ImpactU goes beyond a typical visit event and can be a great way to spend extended time on campus at Asbury.
“We have had several students choose Asbury University as their college after attending ImpactU, and they have attributed their experience through camp to making their decision,” Gonia said.
In addition to ImpactU is Youth Becoming Leaders, a special two-week camp that allows students a time and space to explore what it means to be a leader in a Christian context. Here, they’ll grow in faith and learn how to live a theologically-guided life. Learn more about YBL here.
