Asbury Hosts Commencement Weekend

May 8, 2019

Asbury University’s Merciful Class of 2019 is ready to impact the world and will be walking across the graduation stage in The Luce Physical Activities Center in just a few short days.

Asbury faculty and staff are excited to welcome families and friends to campus for Commencement Weekend 2019! Check out a full Commencement Weekend schedule below. Unable to make it to Asbury’s campus for Commencement Weekend? You can watch a livestream of both Commencement ceremonies by clicking the links below:

Asbury’s Hospitality Center will open at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 10 and meals will be available for purchase in the Z.T. Johnson Cafeteria throughout the day.

The weekend’s festivities will begin on Friday at 7 p.m. with a prelude from Music Department seniors and a Baccalaureate service in Hughes Auditorium. A reception in Kinlaw Library will follow the service, with faculty present to greet graduates and their families.

Asbury President Sandra C. Gray will speak at the Baccalaureate service. In her 12th year as president, Gray has faithfully served Asbury through many seasons over the last 30 years. She first came to Asbury as a business professor, and also served as chair of the Business Department and provost before stepping into her role as president. During her presidency, Asbury launched “Ignited: The Campaign for Asbury University,” the most comprehensive capital campaign in Asbury’s history. Gray will retire following Asbury’s 2019 Reunion this summer, and this weekend will mark Gray’s final Commencement as president.

Commencement for TUG students will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11. A ceremony for Graduate, Adult & Online students will take place at 10 a.m.  A Commencement lunch will be available in the Cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Dr. Steve DeNeff will serve as the 2019 Commencement speaker. He is the senior pastor of College Wesleyan Church in Marion, Ind., and speaks often at conferences, camps and retreats. DeNeff has written several books including “The Way of Holiness,” “More Than Forgiveness,” “Seven Saving Graces” and “Fault Lines.”
