Alumni Return to Campus for Reunion 2019

Laughter, hugs and joyful greetings abound on Asbury University’s campus today as Reunion 2019 begins! Alumni began trickling in for registration at 3 p.m. and are ready to face a full weekend of fun and festive activities. View a full Reunion schedule. Here are a few reasons why Asbury alumni are so happy to be back on campus:
Carolyn Crouse ’69 McLendon has loved seeing all of structural and programming changes the University has made over the years.
“I was just really excited to see all the changes, all the upgrades, all the things that are so different from when I was here,” McLendon said. “I went over and walked through the old science building, which for me holds quite a bit of memories because I spent most of my time there. I think the development of the campus, the development of the technology and the different majors that are now offered that make Asbury more competitive as a University [are great to see]. I think that provides a great foundation. A lot of the people that I went to school with couldn’t stay and finish because they were either in business, finance or communication arts and now they can get that here, which I think is so great.”
Paul Hering ’56 doesn’t live far from campus, but always enjoys returning for Reunions to see his fellow classmates and reminisce on the many pranks he pulled as a student on campus, one of which involved putting paperclips inside the piano in Hughes Auditorium.
“I live in Lexington and I lived in Nicholasville before that,” Hering said. “Prior to that I was in Ohio for 36 years. I run over here every once in a while, but [I’m looking forward to] seeing friends.”
For Jack Howard ’69, who has worked in ministry for 49 years, returning to campus is always special as he is able to look back on his experience coming to Christ during his senior year. This year, he also looks forward to seeing classmates, who haven’t been able to make it to Reunion in prior years, at his class’ 50th Reunion.
“I’m excited to see classmates that I haven’t seen in quite a while,” Howard said. “I’ve been to a lot of Reunions, but a lot of people haven’t been so I’m anxious to see some new faces.”

Online pre-registration for Reunion 2019 has closed, but you can still register on site! On-site registration continues in Kinlaw Library from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
