Financial Aid Offerings Make Asbury the Best Value for Students

Asbury University’s financial aid offerings turn college dreams into a reality for many students. With 99 percent of Asbury students receiving financial aid, funding a college education is one less stress for incoming students and their families.
“Asbury offers robust financial aid programs that include scholarships and grants from state, federal, institutional and outside sources,” said Ron Anderson, director of Financial Aid and assistant vice president for Enrollment. “These programs can be so substantial that students may end up paying no more than they would at a large public institution.”
Asbury’s Financial Aid Office advises that students fund their educations using a combination of sources:
- The student and family
- The federal and state government
- The institution
- Outside sources such as civic organizations and businesses
Students entering the University on a full-time basis are eligible for institutional financial aid, and both full-time and part-time students are eligible for federal and state aid.
Asbury offers need-based aid to students who complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year. The FAFSA opens on October 1 of each year, and the Financial Aid Office suggests that students submit their applications by November 1 for optimum consideration.
Scholarships often make the biggest difference for many students in being able to fund their college educations. With a plethora of scholarships available, students may receive awards for academic achievement, athletics, areas of study, merit and more. There are also several scholarships available for multicultural and international students.
A number of scholarship competitions are held each year, including one for the John Wesley Hughes Scholarship, which covers full-tuition for four winning students. Find out more about scholarships at Asbury.
Those interested in working on campus can participate in the federal college work-study program. This program allows students to work up to 20 hours per week to pay for personal expenses or college expenses, such as tuition, fees, room and board. Eligibility is determined by the FAFSA and the Financial Aid Office. Students can check directly with departments regarding current openings or browse open positions online.
Students may also receive aid through the Church Match program, which encourages churches to support students with gift aid. Asbury will match a church’s contribution dollar for dollar up to $1,000 each academic year. Read more about the Church Match program at Asbury.
Federal and state grants provide an extra boost of funds for many Asbury students. Kentucky-based students can apply for a number of grants based on need, while students from across the country can apply for the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant and the Federal Teach Grant. “Regardless of income, all full-time traditional undergraduates receive Asbury-funded grants and/or scholarships,” Anderson said. “The average financial aid package for these students is nearly $25,000 a year, making an Asbury education affordable.”
