kids in a classroom doing science experiments

Kids College

On the first Saturday of March, the Shaw School of Sciences opens wide its doors to the community for our annual event, Kids College, hosted by AU’s chapter of the Sigma Zeta Honor Society. Children fill the halls for two high-energy sessions jam-packed with hands-on science. Kids College brings science to life for elementary and middle school students as they participate in hands-on chemistry experiments, watch physics demonstrations, and get up-close views of plants and animals in the biology lab. Parents say Kids College offers inspiration, practical science experience, and the excitement of being on a college campus.

Kids College is open to children in Kindergarten through 8th grade. The cost is $20 per student. There are two sessions: a morning session (9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) and an afternoon session (1:30-5 p.m.). We divide each session into three one-hour classes in the subjects of biology, chemistry, and physics. Parents are welcome to leave or stay on campus during the session, but unfortunately, we do not have space for parents to join their children, making it a drop-off event.
