After the Graduate Education Admissions Department receives your online application, you will receive a follow-up email from the admission clerk saying that your application was received. You will also receive detailed information about what is needed to complete your admission portfolio. It is highly recommended that you reach out to the Graduate Education Admissions Department before applying to ensure you are eligible for your program of interest.

Master of Arts (MA) & Certification-only, Rank I programs
Asbury’s MA programs and certification-only, Rank I programs are designed for certified teachers seeking to further their education.
- Online application
- Official transcripts from every college or university attended
- Cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or greater on a 4.0 scale is required
- Photocopy of your valid teaching certificate
- Photocopy of your PRAXIS scores
- Character and fitness form (sent for e-signature via EchoSign)
- Reference contact information and reference waiver (sent for e-signature via EchoSign)
- You will need to provide contact information for three references: employer, professional/professor, and personal
- Additional items as requested
Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
MAT programs are for those pursuing initial teaching certification.
- Online application
- Official transcripts from every college or university attended
- A bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or greater on a 4.0 scale is required.
- If you are interested in teaching a content area other than Learning and Behavior Disorders or English as a Second Language, a bachelor’s degree in the specific content of interest is required (e.g. if you want to enroll in the MAT Biology program, you must hold a bachelor’s degree in Biology).
- Passing score on the appropriate content area PRAXIS exam (if applicable).
- For the MAT in any of the following content areas, you will need to pass the corresponding PRAXIS exam prior to admission:
- Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, Social Studies, French, Latin, Spanish, Middle School content areas (choose two) including English, Math, Social Studies, or Science. (English as a Second Language, Elementary Education, and Learning and Behavior Disorders students are exempt from this prerequisite)

Education Specialist: Principal Licensure/Instructional Supervisor/Director of Pupil Personnel
Asbury’s Ed.S. program as well as Principal, Instructional Supervisor, and Director of Pupil Personnel certification-only programs are designed for certified teachers who hold a master’s degree and have at least three years of teaching experience.

- Official transcripts from every college or university attended
- A master’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater is required. A Kentucky 5th Year certificate does not fulfill this requirement.
- Photocopy of your valid teaching certificate
- Character and fitness form (sent for e-signature via EchoSign)
- Reference contact information and reference waiver (sent for e-signature via Echosign)
- You will need to provide contact information for three references: principal, superintendent/designee OR master’s degree professor, and colleague
- Applicant letter & resume
- 3-5 page maximum, double-spaced with attached resume and/or curriculum vitae, documenting:
- Skills and understanding related to your ability to improve student achievement (2 pages maximum, double-spaced)
- Evidence of ability to exhibit both leadership and an advanced knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment (2 pages maximum, double-spaced), and
- Personal statement of career goals (2 pages maximum, double-spaced).

All applicants whose first language is not English must submit TOEFL exam scores. A 550 minimum on the paper-based test or 80 minimum on the Internet-based test is required. Additional items may be requested as well.
Superintendent Certification
Asbury’s School Superintendent Certification program is designed for certified administrators who hold a master’s degree and have at least three years of school administration experience.
Superintendent Program Requirements
- Master’s Degree (3.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale)
- Current qualifications for KY Teaching Certification
- Completion of Levels I and II preparation and certification for the position of school principal, or supervisor of instruction; OR for a candidate who completed preparation for principal prior to 1988, completion of the assessments for administration; and completion of at least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience, including at least 140 days per year.

- Written letter of recommendation from a supervisor/education agency representative attesting to applicant’s suitability for school leadership

- University Screening Committee Interview
