Asbury University is looking for a qualified candidate to fill an open Admissions Counselor position in their Enrollment Management Division.

Job Title:        Admissions Counselor

Reports to:     Director of Admissions

FLSA Classification:             Exempt

Job Function:

The Admissions Counselor is responsible to facilitate the recruitment and enrollment of new students within an assigned territory in accordance with the overall enrollment management goals and mission of Asbury University. An important part of the position is supporting the ministry and mission of the University and advancing the academic excellence and spiritual vitality of our University and students. Each employee plays an important role in the development of the Christian faith in our students.

Essential Functions

  • Successfully reach and exceed established goals for activities, applications, admissions, deposits, and enrollees for an assigned geographical territory within the guidelines of Asbury University’s enrollment management plan.
  • Establish and develop relationships with prospective students and families providing advice and counsel concerning the educational opportunities at Asbury University through personal visits, phone calls, electronic communication, and correspondence.
  • Represent Asbury University at University fairs, Christian and public high schools, community Universities, churches, conferences, and other events. Travel requirements vary by territory, ranging from four-seven weeks in the fall and two-four weeks in the spring.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with guidance counselors, pastors, alumni, and key influencers in their assigned territory.
  • Review completed applicant files and make admission decisions consistent with the University’s admission standards.
  • Maintain overall leadership and responsibility for an assigned program area.
  • Perform other duties and complete special projects as assigned.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time on-site position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Potential exists to work some evenings and weekends.

Travel

Some travel is expected for this position.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and a maturing Christian faith consistent with the mission of Asbury University are required. 
  • Individual must have a high degree of self motivation, possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills, have a high personal energy level and have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. 
  • The Admissions Counselor must be able to present a positive and accurate representation of Asbury University’s programs and facilities through personal interviews and correspondence with prospective students, parents, youth pastors and high school counselors. 
  • This position requires extensive day and overnight travel and some weekend hours with flexibility in schedule. 
  • A committed and dynamic Christian faith is vital along with the ability to support the University’s theological position, lifestyle standards and mission.
