JOB TITLE:  Financial Aid Assistant

Reports to:    Director of Financial Aid

FLSA Classification:  Non-exempt

Job Purpose:

The Financial Aid Assistant serves as the first contact in the Financial Aid department as well as supporting the ministry and mission of the University and advancing the academic excellence and spiritual vitality of our university and students. Each employee plays an important role in the development of the Christian faith in our students.

Nature of Duties:

  • Handle student/visitor traffic, phones, and email
  • Process and circulate office mail
  • Answer questions concerning financial aid
  • Process and reconcile documents for Institutional Loans
  • Input student information into a database
  • Process outside scholarships/aid and weekly refund checks
  • Run offer letters
  • Order office supplies
  • Schedule appointments
  • Package and award financial aid
  • Assist other Financial Aid staff with requesting, applying, and reconciling aid
  • Provide assistance in coverage for others in the department upon their absence
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical requirements:

  • Regularly engage in conversations and listen attentively
  • Frequently stand, walk, and use hands for various tasks such as typing, filing, stuffing envelopes, and putting office supplies away
  • Occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Full-time on-site position
  • Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Potential for some evenings and weekends

Travel:

  • No travel expected for this position

Experience and Training:

  • 3 years experience as Staff Assistant I or equivalent
  • Typing speed of 40 wpm or higher
  • Good communication skills
  • Sensitivity to customer service and confidentiality
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite; spreadsheet experience a plus
  • Ability to perform basic accounting functions
  • Familiarity with financial aid preferred

Supervision Received:

  • Works under general supervision with outline suggestions for unusually complex or unprecedented situations

Education:

  • College degree preferred, high school education or equivalent required
  • Familiarity with business practices; preferably in an office setting university background

Other Requirements

  • A committed and dynamic Christian faith is vital
  • Ability to support the University’s theological position, lifestyle standards, and mission
