ASBURY ART & DESIGN FACULTY POSITION (PAINTING & DRAWING) 

POSITION: Full-time tenure track faculty position beginning August 2025 

COLLEGE/SCHOOL INFORMATION:  

Situated within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, the Art + Design department holds a central position within Asbury University’s liberal arts mission. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

The University is seeking an individual capable of excellent teaching in the areas of painting, drawing, foundations, and color theory (with an emphasis on painting). Along with medium-specific and thematic courses, the individual will also participate in the department’s advanced courses, such as the team-taught art practices sequence, which will require thinking across media and versatility in interdisciplinary approaches. 

The ideal candidate will also be expected to engage in sustained creative work/ research appropriate to the position and participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including academic advising, institutional service, and a high level of departmental engagement. Candidates should be committed to significant involvement with students both within and outside of the classroom 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

The Department of Art values intellectual, cultural, and creative inquiry. Personal qualities such as originality and initiative are important assets that will contribute to a successful application. Exhibition record and MFA required. At least 2 years teaching experience preferred. 

The ideal candidate is prepared to be the primary continuing professor in painting, drawing, and color theory and has demonstrated experience in practicing and teaching oil and water-based painting mediums, a wide array of drawing materials, digital imaging, and mixed media. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of historical and contemporary discourses in painting, drawing, and color theory, with an interest in new directions in the field.

COMPENSATION:  

Compensation is competitive and dependent upon education and experience. Benefits include retirement (TIAA/CREF) and insurance plans.
