POSITION:  The Christian Thought Department, within the School of Christian Studies at Asbury University, invites applications and nominations for an open-rank, tenure-track position in Philosophy beginning August 2025.

Philosophy is an important dimension to the Asbury University campus and to the historic life of the church. The Philosophy program has a robust curriculum that informs each undergraduate students’ instruction in Christian thought, while cultivating critical thinking, analytical abilities, and communication skills. The integration of faith with the broader tradition of Philosophy is a traditional hallmark of any Christian university.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and program management activities equivalent to 24 credit-hours in an academic year. This would include teaching both introductory and upper level courses in Philosophy, maintaining the Philosophy curriculum (recommending periodic modifications as desired), supervising Philosophy program activities (such as local conferences), and advising students in the Philosophy program, as well as serving on assigned department and university committees while providing leadership and active participation in a range of activities on campus.

ACADEMIC RANK:  Academic rank at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level commensurate with experience.  Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates should possess a strong academic foundation in Philosophy, as well as experience or skilled promise in teaching Philosophy. A doctorate in Philosophy or closely related field is desired. Individuals who hold a master’s degree in Philosophy or a related field, along with experience in teaching Philosophy are encouraged to apply, especially doctoral candidates close to completion. Any master’s faculty candidate must articulate a commitment to pursue a doctoral degree. Any master’s faculty candidate must have at least four semesters of Philosophy teaching experience with any load as a minimum requirement.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to applicants with the most appropriate academic credentials in Philosophy as well as teaching experience in the field. Online teaching or learning experience is not required but is an advantage for applicants; a willingness to adapt to distance-oriented teaching modalities is necessary, given the shifts taking place in higher. An academic foundation in theology is not required but is an advantage for applicants.

COMPENSATION:  Compensation is competitive and dependent upon education and experience. Benefits include retirement (TIAA/CREF) and insurance plans.
