Frequently Asked Questions

▾ I am a minor (under 18 years old). Do I need parental consent to be seen by the Health Services Clinic?

▾ Where can I go to get medical treatment when the Health Service Clinic is closed?

You can find links to after hours or emergency care here: After Hours/Emergency Care

▾ Can I get a doctor’s excuse if I missed one of my classes?

Per the Asbury Catalog, excused absences may be granted in the case of hospitalization or serious illness (as determined by a physician). Instructors will explain to students their attendance expectations and grading policies with respect to absences from class sessions at the beginning of each course .

Students are encouraged to communicate with their professor regarding any missed class. All official class excuse requests must be submitted by the student to the Registrar’s Office. A student may request an excused absence within 3 weeks of the absence and prior to the last class date in order for the Registrar to issue an excused absence (with permission to make up work) to be presented to the instructor.

If the student has been seen by the Asbury University Health Services Clinic, the clinic may submit a class excuse recommendation to the Registrar's Office  if deemed necessary by the nurse or physician.  Student Health Services will not issue retroactive excuses, and students must have been seen by a provider at the Health Services clinic for an excuse to be considered.

Students may not be penalized for any absence approved by the Registrar’s Office, but it is the responsibility of the student to notify the professor(s) of the absence in a timely manner, to arrange make-up work, and submit missed assignments and/or exams.

Please see our Class Excuse page for more details.

▾ Where do I find healthcare after leaving Asbury?

Before going to any hospital or clinic, be sure to check with your insurance company to see if that provider and/or facility is covered by your plan.  If not, you may want to choose another who IS covered to save you money.
