Online Ministry Management
Asbury University has had a longstanding relationship with the Salvation Army, having for many decades shared a Wesleyan heritage with numerous faculty members and students. Asbury faculty and administrators developed an online program using distance learning and online courses in conjunction with the Salvation Army Eastern Territory School for Officer Training based in New York. Open to select students who have completed the SA Officer Training Degree, this Online Program is delivered by Asbury faculty through a combination of online courses and face-to-face intensive courses. The program builds on the Salvation Army student‘s Associate of Applied Science degree, and it is delivered to cohorts of Army students over a five-year cycle.

It provides skills and tools that make you an effective leader in ministry. Learning alongside fellow officers in an educational setting was a plus for me. The Asbury professors made my online experience enjoyable. I am thinking about completing a master’s degree because this program brought out my love for learning.”

Distinguishing Online Program Features
As a SACSCOC accredited, top five ranked Regional College (South) by US News and World Report, the program combines distinguished academics and unique, real world applications. The program includes a distinct emphasis in ministry management, and introduces theory and practice that are relevant to a wide range of business and ministry-related fields. Twenty-first century leadership concepts are contextualized through a focus on application to real-world situations and real-ministry contexts. Students interact with faculty who bring expertise and experience in related fields to the learning environment. Students also engage each other in a community of learning that is represented by unique professional and personal experiences.
How the Program is Delivered
The program combines online learning with campus-based intensive courses that occur twice per year. For the online components, Asbury University uses a state-of-the-art Online Learning Platform that enables all online students to personally engage with faculty and their cohorts. Most online course activities are completed asynchronously, but students also participate in live, synchronous video web-conferencing sessions with instructors and students.
How the Program will Benefit Me
The program promotes active learning in a collaborative, technology-mediated environment. Diverse interactions with faculty, students, and 21st century principles of ministry management equip students with knowledge and skills that are transferable to real-world contexts. Students will have opportunities to identify important connections between the Christian faith, their life, and their profession.
Program Admissions Requirements
Satisfy the following:
- Letter from Salvation Army Eastern Territory‘s College for Officer Training recommending student for the Ministry Management program.
- Students must have attended the College for Officer Training through The Salvation Army in New York. Official transcripts from this institution must be sent directly to the Asbury University Online Programs office.
- Applicants wishing to transfer in additional previous course credit (see limitations below) must request each college or university to send an official transcript directly to the Asbury University Adult & Online Learning office for approval. Hand carried transcripts are not acceptable. Transcripts may be mailed to:

- One satisfactory reference from The Salvation Army.
- TOEFL Scores. If the student is not a native speaker of English, he or she must submit an official score report of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). He or she must present a minimum score of 80 on the internet-based TOEFL or 550 on the paper-based TOEFL before they can be admitted.
Students must be selected and recommended by Salvation Army to be enrolled in the program. Degree status in the Ministry Management program at Asbury is dependent upon completion of the SA COT program degree. Students who possess an accredited A.A.S. degree from the Salvation Army College for Officer Training, or are scheduled to complete the requirements of the A.A.S. degree by the beginning of the third Asbury course will be automatically enrolled for the Bachelor of Science in Ministry Management (Nonprofit Administration) program. Official transcripts from SA COT are required to verify the completion of the A.A.S. degree. A maximum 60.0 credits will be transferred from SA COT towards the B.S. degree at Asbury.
Students who will not be able to complete the requirements of the A.A.S. degree can only be enrolled for a certification in Ministry Management (Nonprofit Administration) program. Students who already hold a bachelor‘s degree at Asbury University will also enroll in the certification program.
