“A Holy Life is a Life that Belongs to the Heart of God” — February 4-8, 2008

Asbury College hosts Holiness Emphasis Week February 4-8, 2008. The speaker is Dr. Victor Hamilton, a retired professor of Bible and Theology at Asbury College. This year’s theme is “A Holy Life is a Life that Belongs to the Heart of God.”

Services are in Hughes Auditorium Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 a.m. Pre-service prayer is Monday through Wednesday in Reasoner 214 at 6 p.m., and in Hughes 135 Thursday. Evening services Monday through Thursday are in Hughes Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. All services are free and open to the public.

Guest Speaker:

Victor Hamilton began teaching in 1971 and retired in 2007. Hamilton holds his Ph.D. and M.A. from Brandeis University, B.D. and Th.M. from Asbury Theological Seminary and B.A. from Houghton College. His special area of emphasis is the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Old Testament.

In addition to teaching, he has written five books, among them a two-volume commentary on Genesis, and the 2005 second edition of his Handbook on the Pentateuch, first published in 1982. He also served on the translation team of The New Living Translation of the Bible (NLT).

He often speaks at churches, conferences, camps and retreats across North America and is a regular speaker in chapel services and student events on campus. Hamilton is married to Shirley and they have four children and several grandchildren. The Hamiltons were both born and raised in Toronto, Canada and became U.S. citizens in February 2005.
