Asbury College March

Irene McCague Ihde

The Asbury College March was written in 1916 by Irene McCague Ihde, a professor of music at the college. In the links below you can see the sheet music in a pdf file, or you can listen to it being sung by the Asbury College Men’s Glee Club reunion using the player below.

Asbury College March (sheet music – pdf)

Just within the village Wilmore, on a hill so fair,

Stands a college seen far distant with her purpose rare.

CHORUS:

Asbury College! She is the school we love,

Cheering her banner – the purple and the white!

Hurrah! for Asbury College that leads us to heights above!

We, her sons and daughters, when we part

To her purpose will be true!

East and West and North and South are students far and near;

Those from lands across the sea, they all are gathered here.

CHORUS

All the nations share the blessings of the student there;

For each one has been the subject of some teacher’s prayer.
