The Worship Arts major at Asbury is dedicated to equipping you to use the arts to engage your culture with the truth and love of Jesus Christ. It is a program where passion runs alongside excellence in practice, where classes are designed to lead your heart as well as train your mind. We want to use music, the visual arts, and drama to lead people to Jesus.
The foundation for the Worship Arts major is a broad set of customizable classes ranging from Worship theology and Worship history to classes that engage you about your relationship with Jesus to courses that cover a broad range of the worship arts with classes in music, drama, media, and graphic design. With this foundation, you can specialize in one (or more) of three areas: music, drama, or visual arts.
The Worship Arts major began at Asbury University in 2008. There is a strong sense of community among the majors and the environment is supportive and encouraging. Students love being with each other and often get together to jam or just to hang out. Many of our students are involved in the worship arts in their local churches as well as University activities like worship nights, WHAM (Worship Him At Midnight), and, of course, the chapel bands. The chapel bands have excellent equipment, such as a Yamaha Motif and Korg M3 and M50 keyboards, a nice guitar pedal board, Mesa cabinets, and Dr. Z and Egnater heads. There are several large churches in the Lexington area that are in the forefront of using the worship arts to communicate the gospel, and many of our students are involved with the arts in these churches. The arts leaders in a number of these churches are Asbury graduates.
