BIO

Cathrin is an Asbury alumna who serves as an assistant professor in the psychology department and the equine program. This unique position allowed Cathrin to create the Equine Assisted Services major in 2021. Cathrin teaches most EAS courses offered at Asbury, in addition to psychology courses that relate to the counseling practice and integrative health. Cathrin is a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC) in the state of Kentucky and has been practicing for over 10 years as a mental health counselor, specializing in the incorporation of equine interactions in her counseling practice. Cathrin is one of few practitioners in the country who holds a BA and MS degree that specializes in the integration of equines into human services (with a focus on clinical mental health counseling). She has also achieved the highest level of credentialing available in the US for equine interactions in mental health and education services as a Certified Equine Interaction Mental Health Professional by the Certifying Board of Equine Interaction Professionals (CBEIP).

Cathrin grew up as a missionary kid in Germany where she was grateful for the rich life of faith in which her parents raised her and her 4 sisters. After completing her Master’s Degree at Prescott College (AZ), she married Michael, a Georgia native. Together, they have the great pleasure of raising their two children, Micah and Evie. Along with their two dogs, Buddy and Layla, the family enjoys outdoor adventures whenever they can. Michael, Micah, and Evie also serve as Cathrin’s amazing support crew when she takes students from the Asbury Equine Program to equestrian events and competitions in the Lexington area. The family worships and serves at the Great Commission Fellowship Vineyard church in Wilmore, KY.
