Proficiency Evaluation Pathway Requirements

The evaluation requires an analysis to be done of experiences and coursework of the applicant making comparisons and contrasts to the needed training of the area of specialty.

An individual coursework or curriculum is designed to meet those needs. The number of hours for that coursework depends on the needs of the individual applicant. Certification can be achieved once the applicant is admitted to the program. Asbury University will charge a $500 service fee for the curriculum analysis.

Applicants admitted to a Proficiency Evaluation Pathway program must complete the coursework in two years to receive a Professional Teaching Certification. A Proficiency Evaluation Pathway is a certification only program, so applicants are not eligible for Federal Financial Aid. Requirements include:

  • A degree or 30+ instructional hours of coursework in the designated specialty area
  • A Passing score on the content Praxis examination (either as a Pre-Requisite or taken later in the program)
  • Less than 30 hours of coursework could be considered if there is significant job experience in the new area of study
  • Native language speakers in foreign language content areas
  • 2.75 GPA or 3.0 on the last 30 hours (Transcript)
