Program Overview
You’re studying at the graduate level because of a calling and a passion to inspire and guide students. At Asbury, you’ll discover that teaching isn’t just about preparation for standardized tests or developing lesson plans, but building a trusting and encouraging relationship with your students.
Teachers like you are not only needed to be a catalyst for academic content, but an educator exemplifying virtue, compassion and a hunger for learning.
Pursing your master’s degree in education or your next teaching certification at Asbury will provide you with exceptional learning in your program of choice. You’ll be given the independence to personalize your degree pace and schedule, while receiving the confidence to pour into your students in any Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) approved school. Your professors will not only educate you to be a sought-after professional in your field, but also give you the opportunity to grow in your spiritual life and personal character. Your graduate degree in education can follow four tracks — a Master of Arts, a Master of Arts in Teaching, an Education Specialist Degree, or a Certification.
If you’re a certified teacher seeking to further your education, the M.A. program is specially designed for your professional journey. Each program can also be provided as a certification-only Rank I program, which means you’ll gain the education that places you in administrative or leadership positions. Asbury requires three prerequisites for the program:
Not sure if you have the time to do it? Our, accredited online graduate education programs require a total of 30-31credit hours and are tailored to fit your preferences without sacrificing your schedule. This means you could plan to spend about five to eight semesters, depending on your degree. You’ll take a balance of core education courses, pathway-specific courses and electives tailored to your specialty.
All of our M.A. in Education Degrees are featured in the +Grad Program designed to give you the opportunity to start your master’s degree before you graduate. Undergraduate students can complete up to 9 credit hours of a graduate degree through the +Grad program and upon graduation with an undergrad degree can complete a master’s in as few as 12 additional months.
With choosing the English as a Second Language (ESL) concentration, you’ll be combining your love for the English language with clear, communicative teaching strategies. You’ll learn grammar and linguistics for teaching English learners alongside the methods and assessments needed to reinforce your lessons. After degree completion, you’ll be ready to teach ESL to your classroom both here in Kentucky and abroad!
With choosing the Learning and Behavior Disorders (LBD) concentration, you’ll be qualified to teach Pre-K through 12th-grade students with disabilities ranging from anxiety and depression, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and autism spectrum disorder. You’ll learn behavioral support for children and adolescents alongside inclusive classroom demeanor and the methods of teaching students with LBD.
By choosing the Literacy Specialist P-12 concentration, you’ll gain in-depth professional knowledge of literacy development. You’ll learn how to foster advanced reading and writing skills in elementary students and understand how these skills evolve and impact learning in secondary and post-secondary education.
With choosing the Principal Licensure concentration, you’ll be prepared for leadership roles in K-12 education. You’ll learn educational leadership, school management and organization, curriculum development, and staff assessment and supervision. This concentration will also cover school law, legal responsibilities, and finances.
With Asbury’s Master or Arts in Education, you’ll receive personalized, thorough education while knowing exactly what is going on in the current industry. Here are some other unique reasons why Asbury should be your next step in your professional journey:
