Science came to life on Saturday, March 3 for the 240 kids visiting Asbury University’s campus., Sigma Zeta, Asbury’s chapter of the national science and mathematics honors society, hosts the Kids College event every year. Kids College gives kindergarten through eighth grade students hands-on experience in biology, chemistry and physics sessions. The annual program serves as an outreach to the local homeschool community and, this year, was led by 40 Asbury students.
Popular within the community, registration for the one-day event is known to fill up quickly. This year, kids had the chance to get an up-close view of amphibians and reptiles, watch physics demonstrations and participate in interactive chemistry experiments. Kids enjoyed watching the fun explosions, but also learned about the science behind them which made the experience both educational and entertaining. This annual event provides a scientific outlet for elementary and middle schoolers interested in pursuing science in high school, college and beyond.
