Our computer labs feature over 200 computers available to students, faculty, and staff. Asbury University provides eight computer labs for students, faculty, and staff containing over 200 Apple and Dell computers across 4 different buildings. Access to and reservations for these labs is available by request to the area coordinator for each building. Students may use any campus computer lab during normal building hours unless the room has been reserved for either a class or special event.
Each academic lab is updated annually with a current software image to enhance learning and support program objectives. Minor updates (mostly involving minor fixes in software and operating system) are performed throughout the year as time allows. The largest influence that the faculty have on this annual software cycle is the input they provide in the creation of the software list for the next year. This happens each year through regular communication from I.T. Services. Each academic lab is on a four year rotation of technology. During this process, the lab is evaluated for improvements in hardware that will be necessary for future use. Any questions regarding this process should be submitted to I.T. Services by creating a support ticket.
Asbury University has one general-purpose “open” computer lab and seven instructional labs that are available to all students. These labs are open on schedules determined by the building they are located within. Students are provided free access to a wide variety of software in the computer labs including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, web browsers, email, and any course-required software. Lab computers are running either macOS or Microsoft Windows operating systems.
Both color and black/white printers are available in our computer labs as well as flatbed scanners. Each academic lab is updated annually with a current software image to enhance learning and support program objectives. I.T. Services maintains frequent conversations with academic departments and faculty about their software-related needs, and adjustments are made throughout the year to meet those needs. The largest influence that faculty have on this annual software cycle, is the input that they give during the creation of the software list for the academic computer labs each Spring. If you have an Academic Software need, include the Software Title, Company Name, Projected Cost, Software Licensing Information, and Labs Requested for Software Installation to help us support program objectives and learning outcomes.
I.T. Services maintains a campus printing system for the benefit of students, faculty, and staff. There are printers in every computer lab on campus. There are 4 computer labs in the Kinlaw Library, 2 in the Miller Center for Communication Arts, 1 in the McCreless Fine Arts Center, and 1 in the Hamann-Ray Science Center. In addition, students have access to a printer in the Student Center. In total, there are 9 locations on campus with printers for student use.
All Asbury students are provided with a $40 printing balance at the beginning of the semester. This balance refreshes back to $40 at the beginning of each new semester while the student is enrolled. The remaining print balance does not roll over to the next semester. Students can print past the $40 limit, and any charges they incur after the $40 is used will be charged to their student account and can be paid through the Cashier’s Office. If your print balance has been charged incorrectly (ex. charged for color when the document is black and white or being charged for a document that did not print), please see this document on Print Balance Refunds to have the amount refunded to your balance.
Asbury Faculty and Staff have printers located in their department and should print in those spaces. They are provided with a $5 “emergency” print balance if they need to print in the Kinlaw Library or one of the computer lab spaces rather than in their department. If a faculty or staff member needs to be mapped to a printer in their department, they should contact I.T. Services to set up an appointment.

From time to time, used, surplus equipment may become available for sale through I.T. Services. Please note that 100% of items for sale are used, and in most cases, heavily used prior to sale. These are not items that we recommend for students or businesses or professionals to use and depend on for daily use.
Sale announcements are posted on campus Digital Signage and sent through the campus email system. For more information about future sales, please contact I.T. Services at helpdesk@asbury.edu. I.T. Services does not provide online sale of equipment, and can’t ship any equipment from a sale. All sales are in person, with no warranty, and final (no returns).
Want to use your own computer? Several general-purpose computer labs are available to students, though most elect to have their own computer. If you do bring your own computer, the following guidelines should be kept in mind:
Campus advertisements, recitals, events, plays, and recent news are all featured on our campus-wide digital signage system. Asbury University manages a network of over twenty digital signage displays across campus designed with the purpose of informing students, faculty, staff, and visitors about University announcements, student events, I.T. Services announcements, holiday information, and other relevant campus information. This network of digital signage provides an intuitive and unobtrusive way to inform students of new opportunities and events in a graphical way. Student Organizations, as well as faculty and staff, may submit slides for display across campus to the IT Services department, where they will be considered for approval based on I.T. Services’ digital signage policies and guidelines before being published to the digital signage system. Our graphic design team can also help create a slide for you.
To upload a slide for approval, submit it here:

Asbury’s I.T. Services department has an award-winning, affordable digital signage program based on open source components. Additional costs may be required based on location. These costs are paid for by the department requesting the signage. To request a new digital signage installation, please contact I.T. Services using our support form. I.T. Services strongly believes in sharing open-source technologies and ideas. For technical specifications on our digital signage model or other information, please contact us. Asbury University’s digital signage system comprises fifteen displays in key locations across campus. Digital signage submitted to I.T. Services for display across campus screens must first be approved based on a set of technical and content-based guidelines developed to ensure signs best represent Asbury University while maintaining consistency, readability, and simplicity. A submitted sign could be an advertisement, announcement, or PSA. If it is relevant and useful to campus and students, then it could be digital signage!

Asbury University provides wired and wireless service to all dorm rooms, classrooms, public meeting spaces, and most offices. Asbury University maintains a campus-wide wired data network connecting all classrooms, offices, and dorm rooms internally and to the world wide web (WWW). Additionally, we provide wireless internet access in all dorm rooms, and in most academic and community spaces, including the Kinlaw Library, Student Center, Dining Hall, and Bistro. All members of the Asbury Community and all guests are required to log into the Network through an Access Control Page. All on-campus connections are also monitored and filtered for inappropriate or malicious content. Students, Faculty, and Staff are each granted individual network server space shares of at least 200 MB (Faculty & Staff shares may be larger). Additionally, I.T. Services provides up to 1 Terabyte (TB) of online digital storage through Microsoft OneDrive. Both the network server space share and OneDrive can be accessed on-campus on computer lab computers or personal computers, as well as off campus anywhere you can connect to the internet. Instructions on how to access both resources are available by contacting I.T Services through our support request form.
