Ancient & Modern Languages Department

"I’ve been fascinated by linguistics since I was old enough to speak, and studying Ancient Languages has not only fueled that passion, but given me an incredible foundation into the world of linguistics. The ancient languages are quite literally road maps into every other language and are gold mines of history. I have studied in depth over 41 languages at this point, and I don’t think I’ll ever stop – this is absolutely what I love."
Chloee Adams ’25 Ancient Languages major at Asbury University

Students in the Ancient and Modern Languages department can dive into topics like Greek, Hebrew, Latina and many others. They also have the opportunity to earn cross-cultural engagement credit through cooperative programs all around the world, like: :

  • Seville, Spain, with Trinity College
  • San José, Costa Rica in a consortium sponsored by the Council on Christian Colleges and Universities
  • Santa Cruz, Bolivia, at the Universidad Evangelica Boliviana
  • Franceville, France, with Chez Vous
Trips to Greece give students a firsthand experience with the cultures whose language they study.
The Kinlaw Library at Asbury University as well as the Asbury Theological Seminary library give students ample and unique resources to explore.
