Media COmmunication Concentrations


Prepare for careers like sound engineer, recording engineer or audio mix engineer with the audio production major concentration, and experience our professional recording studio. Take specialized courses like Live Audio and Sound, Advanced Audio Production, Multi-Track Recording, Sound for Picture and more. 

BA in Media Communication students who major in film production take courses like Directing the Narrative Film, Cinematography and Lighting and Screenwriting. Students have options to get Steadicam certified or even scuba certified in Underwater Cinematography.

What if you could become a learning engineer in the virtual space? As an instructional designer, you can create learning and training experiences for businesses, hospitals, and schools. Our forward-thinking emphasis intertwines theory with practice, providing you with high-demand marketable skills across multiple industries.

Courses from the multimedia emphasis of the BA in Media Communication instruct students in graphic design, digital media technology, social media marketing, content management systems and special event production. This emphasis will allow your to tell visual stories for real clients as part of your undergraduate experience. 

Graduates from the Media Communication program can go on to become news anchors, radio and television personalities and even actors in feature films and primetime TV. Students in the performance major concentration take a mix of media communication courses, acting courses and courses focused on news and sports reporting.

A highlight of the Production Design program at Asbury is the Miller Communications Center’s special collection of props and sets from real Hollywood productions. Students in this emphasis take courses specializing in design theory, art history and set design, positioning them for career paths like production designer, art director, scenic/lighting/costume/makeup designers, and more!

It all starts with the story. This emphasis prepares students for a creative life in storytelling, with careers in screenwriting, television writing, playwriting and much more. Screenwriting Concentration students take courses like Feature Film Screenwriting, Tools for Writers, Film Aesthetics and a variety of seminars in scriptwriting.

Whether you’re interested in sports TV, dramas, news or documentary, the B.A. in Media Communication program’s television and video production emphasis opens up job opportunities as a television director, segment producer, sports broadcast crew and more!

The highly acclaimed Miller Communication Arts Building has classrooms, labs, production facilities, theaters, a screening room, and also is a media museum.
The student newsroom is a high-tech centerpiece of Miller.
Asbury has professional audio equipment for students to work with.
A professional broadcast control room allows students hands-on experience in event and livestream production.
Students can gain real experience anchoring a news broadcast in Miller.
