Program Overview
The Worship Arts major at Asbury is dedicated to equipping you to use the arts to engage your culture with the truth and love of Jesus Christ. It is a program where passion runs alongside excellence in practice, where classes are designed to lead your heart as well as train your mind. We want to use music, the visual arts, and drama to lead people to Jesus.
At Asbury we believe Worship Arts is a ministry grounded in Christ, connected to Scripture, and committed to loving others. The worship arts program is professional training to serve as a worship leader on a church staff, in missions, or other music ministry. Students take courses in Biblical philosophy of worship, music theory, leadership, worship technology, vocal and instrumental training, songwriting and audio production.
The foundation for the worship arts major is a broad set of customizable classes ranging from worship theology and history to specific worship leading skills. The range of classes in music, drama, media, and graphic design, prepare students to be well rounded leaders. With this foundation, you can specialize in one (or more) of three areas: music, drama, or visual arts.
The Worship Arts program offers many experiences to serve churches and the Asbury community. In addition to helping lead chapel bands, our students provide worship leadership in various university activities like worship nights, WHAM (Worship Him At Midnight), and class events. Many students serve in the worship arts in their local churches as well. There is a strong sense of community among the students in the program and the environment is supportive and encouraging.
