Scholarship Competition Requirements

Resumé, Essay & Interview Requirements

Students will be required to submit a resumé and essay to be used as a platform for the presentation portion of their interview. This interview will include two Asbury University Facilitators and two fellow competitors.  The resumé and essay should be prepared in advance of the competition and submitted via the online portal at least three days prior to the interview.

Resumé

• Includes name and contact information
• High School, Weighted GPA, Test Scores are optional but not required (Superscore)
• Activities and Leadership Roles
• Honors and Awards/Recognitions
• 2 page limit, 8.5 x 11 sheet, 12 pt Times New Roman font

Essay

• Using the following quote from Asbury University Alum, E. Stanley Jones, please expound upon this idea of community and how this will impact your time at Asbury. “Here we enter a fellowship, sometimes we will agree to differ, always we will resolve to love and unite to serve.”
• 300-350 words, 8.5 x 11 sheet, double-spaced, 12 pt Times New Roman font
• Please include your first and last name on the essay

Presentation

• This is an opportunity for you to introduce yourself to your interviewers and peers. Using your resumé and essay as a foundation for this discussion, please present this information as a personal introduction.
• You will have a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes to present.
• The interviewers will ask follow-up questions regarding the information you have shared.
• Interviews will take into consideration presentation, personality, punctuality and professionalism.
• You may use an outline and/or note cards for your own personal reference during your presentation.
• Please do not bring supporting materials to display to the interviewers (no visual aids, PowerPoint, art portfolios, additional writing samples, etc.).

Scholarship Criteria

In reviewing your resumé and essay, we will take into consideration presentation, participation and awards and/or recognitions. Scholarships will be determined using the criteria below. 

• The student’s academic history denoted on the transcript (including GPA and Curriculum)
• Resumé
• Essay
• Interview

Scholarships will be announced by early March. All participants will receive a phone call regarding the decision made.
