Writing Consulting

Writing consultations promote and develop critical and reflective writers as well as supporting writers in improving writing skills by teaching self-revising, editing, and proofreading skills.

Students of all levels, working at any stage or genre, are encouraged to meet with a peer writing consultant. Students receive encouragement to grow in written communication skills and ability of the writing process.

Peer Course tutoring

The goal of Course Tutoring is to help students be more prepared and comfortable with class content. Tutoring is available for all enrolled students at all levels of class material understanding.

Students can be involved with tutoring through formal individual or group sessions as well as through a variety of informal drop-in, homework help, and course study sessions scheduled throughout the school year.

Academic Coaching

Academic Coaches assist students in achieving academic excellence. Students at all levels of academic achievement can benefit from working with an academic coach individually or in a coaching group.

Academic Coaches help students increase learning efficiency, improve problem solving abilities and critical thinking skills, and maximize academic skills like note-taking, studying, discovering one’s learning style, and more.

CAE Student Employment

These positions are for undergraduate students who have acquired specific knowledge and skills in writing, subject matter, and/or learning strategies and are able to communicate this knowledge and these strategies to peers in an effective, appealing manner.

Course Tutors, Academic Coaches & Writing Consultants must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and have obtained a minimum of an B in the classes they want to tutor.

Course Tutors, Academic Coaches, & Writing Consultants are required to attend scheduled training sessions. They are required to document tutoring activities and be in communication with course instructors and CAE staff regarding tutoring content.

Attention to detail and punctuality is of the utmost importance for those who work with us as tutors.

  • Writing Consultants have proven competence in writing and grammar and display confidence, passion, and sensitivity for helping writers grow.
  • Course Tutors have taken and excelled in courses (or course equivalents) for which they are tutoring and have demonstrated the ability to effectively communicate what they have learned.
  • Academic Coaches have proven solid academic performance, effective learning strategies, knowledgeable responses to various learning styles, and a strong resolve to help others succeed.
