Each summer, hundreds of alumni from across the globe gather in Wilmore, Ky. to reconnect and reminisce at Asbury University’s Reunion. Themed “He is Faithful,” Reunion 2019 is just around the corner on June 20-23 with many events in the works from the Alumni Office for this festive summer weekend. Among these is the Youth Program, which makes Reunion a time the whole family can enjoy.
The Youth Program makes it possible for alumni to reconnect with classmates, knowing that their children are both well cared for and having fun with a variety of summer camp-style activities.
There are five programs available for kids to participate in, dependent on their rising grade in school: Pre-School (ages birth-pre-school), Eagles (grades K-2), Kids College (grades 3-5), Trendsetters (grades 6-8) and College Connection (grades 9-12).
Reunion Youth Program Director Kim Spillman notes that kids have so much fun at Youth Program activities that they don’t want to leave.
“Children usually dread it when their parents come back to pick them up at the end of each session,” said Spillman. “They have so much to do throughout the day and evening sessions. They usually crash as soon as their heads hit the bed!”
While their parents spend the weekend with old friends from Asbury past, children will participate in activities like swimming, canoeing and other fun games catered to kids in their specific age group.
For Pre-Schoolers, little ones spend Reunion playing, eating, sleeping, having reading time and watching movies in a secure basement with an enclosed courtyard and indoor gym. The Eagles program takes kids beyond their normal day-to-day life with activities such as swimming, playing on inflatables, playing games with others and watching movies with popcorn.
For those in grades three through five, Kids College combines those events with even more fun, introducing kids to rock climbing and more outdoor activities. In the Trendsetters group, sixth through eighth graders learn about horses at Asbury’s Equine Center, explore the indoor climbing wall and outdoor ropes challenge courses and spend their sessions with members of Asbury’s Adventure Leadership group. College Connection will change gears, focusing more on introducing high school students to Asbury’s campus as they consider college options. They’ll also have a blast through activities like canoeing on the Dix River.
“Parents can relax and enjoy being back on campus, knowing that their children are having a great time in their own program,” Spillman said. “It really is a great program for the entire family.”
Asbury’s Reunion Youth Program is $60 per child for all sessions. Families with three or more children can enroll at the Family Rate of $145. View a schedule and fees for individual sessions here.
